Individual commitment to a group effort -- that is what makes a team work, a company work, a society work, a civilization work.
- Vince Lombardi

A Statement From Undersheriff Shayne Heap

Probably more than any other profession, law enforcement knows this truth: EVIL EXISTS – IN NO UNCERTAIN TERMS EVIL EXISTS. Whether that equates to a plane flown into a building on American soil and killing thousands, or petty thievery on the eastern plains of Elbert County, evil exists and members of the law enforcement community deal with it every day.

There is one proven way to stop evil – place decisive action in its way!

A group of guardians dedicate themselves to doing exactly that. Law enforcement members and other first responders put themselves in the dangerous gap between victims and those who commit crime, taking whatever action is necessary to stop evil. I want nothing more than to stand in that gap. I have dedicated the last 8 years of my life to the Elbert County Sheriff’s Office, and I will ensure that we continue to maintain the high level of professionalism and integrity that we have built over the years. This is not a retirement job for me - my fight against evil is not over yet!

Statement of Values:
  • I believe that life and individual freedoms, as guaranteed by the United States Constitution, are sacred.
  • I will uphold the fair and equitable treatment of all individuals.
  • I value my good reputation in the law enforcement community and will seek to meet the highest public standards. I will demonstrate the utmost in honesty and integrity in all that I do through common sense and ethical behavior.
  • I believe law enforcement must partner with the communities we serve, but I will accept full responsibility and accountability for actions of the Sheriff’s Office.
