Recent Successes

Elbert County Sheriff's Office's Safety Impact Team (SIT) – Founded in 2008, the Safety Impact Team utilizes the "3 E's" of traffic safety, Engineering, Education, and Enforcement, to create a safer community by enforcing traffic safety laws, educating and assisting citizens in solving traffic problems and recommending traffic engineering changes. Members of the Safety Impact Team provide a significant enforcement presence on Elbert County roads; make recommendations regarding traffic engineering changes; and teach safety programs, including the effects of Drinking and Driving, Bicycle Safety, Child Safety Restraint Systems, and Fatal Vision.

Traffic Trailer (Smart Trailer) – As an additional tool, the Elbert County Sheriff's Office acquired a mobile radar trailer in August of 2009, thanks to a grant from the Colorado Department of Transportation. Mobile radar devices have been shown to be highly effective in traffic control. The "Smart Trailer" is deployed in areas where traffic speed is a problem. The system stores the data it gathers so that the information can be analyzed for potential traffic improvements. 2009 Saw Fewer Traffic Fatalities State-Wide – The Elbert County Sheriff’s Office participates in state-wide programs to reduce traffic accidents and fatalities, and implements programs, such as the Safety Impact Team, which are designed to work with state-wide programs.
